Harry Potter opera?

HarryPotter.jpgBelieve it or not Harry Potter is being turned into an Opera and although no one is allowing the release, the writer is still planning on adapting all seven books.

The story from SignOnSanDiego through Harry Potter News Aggregator:

Tiffany Moon has written the first solo for the Harry Potter opera and is planning the seven part opera based on the Potter series. So far Warner Brothers and J.K. Rowling have refused the license request, but Moon seems persistent and is going to keep writing.

"What isn't it about them that makes them operatic?," she asks. "It's pure epic. There's the hero who doesn't know who he is, who has to grow into himself. Whose master has to die before he can take on the mantle."

Well operatic it is, but huge tales compressed into short aria's for a single opera? I'm not so sure that Rowling would approve. Not to mention the fact that these are tales aimed at children growing into adults and we'll find that the audience isn't there, well not as much as the books anyway - I know a lot of adults like reading these. Opera though?

Any child out there classically trained to sing for the Harry role?

I am glad I just finished drinking my coffee after I saw this Rich. ;-)

All seven books? Maybe they should be getting Karlheinz Stockhausen to write the music, as he has experience with writing seven-part operatic cycles. Be a damn sight more interesting that way as well.
