I Am Legion comic adaptation

ComicPage.jpgI Am Legion is a comic adaptation that is really trying to stay true to its origins by using the talents of the writer and artist of the original comic on the film itself.

From The Hollywood Reporter through Superhero Hype:

Set in 1942, "Legion" tells of a diabolical attempt by the Nazis to develop a new weapon through controlling people's minds....adapted from the World War II political intrigue penned by Fabien Nury and illustrated by top U.S. graphic artist John Cassaday...

...Cassaday will follow in the footsteps of fellow graphic artists such as Frank Miller ("Sin City") and Enki Bilal ("Immortal") and make the transition to director for the movie adaptation. Nury has written the screenplay.

Is it a chance that they've taken on a first time director, or is it a safe bet because he has the cinematic eye from his comic artist roots? I'm not sure, he has the potential to make it visually exciting, but it will depend on the script and that $15 million budget that's been tagged to it.

Interesting to see Miller's name invoked in this context. I was under the impression he directed little or none of Sin City and it was really Robert Rodriguez' work (apart, obviously, from the Tarantino scene), but that Rodriguez gave Miller the co-director credit because he felt he wasn't really bringing much new to it and that Miller had already done the "real" work with the comic book. Or something along those lines.

$15m isn't an awful lot of money these days, but it depends on what it is they're trying to do. It obviously wouldn't buy the sort of digital work you get in either Sin City or Immortal (the former was budgeted at US$40m, the latter at approximately US$28m), but maybe the film won't actually require that. I'm not familiar with it so I don't know what effects it'll need or anything like that...

Acting is not the noblest profession in the world. There are things lower than acting - not many, mind you. The politicians give you something to look down on from time to time.
