Movielink to allow movies to DVD
Finally someone in Hollywood has seen some sense, and Movielink, which distributes films over the Internet, may soon be allowing films to be downloaded and copied to DVD.
According to CNet news has purchased a company called Sonic Solutions which provides software that allow consumers to transfer downloaded movies to DVD. Their burning software features DRM protection that follows the film onto the DVD.
In a news release, the company did not say whether the studios had signed off on allowing their films to be burned to DVD. A Movielink representative could not be reached for comment."We are anticipating an industry resolution to establish rules for converting secure Internet-delivered Movielink downloads into a secure format compatible with DVD players," Jim Ramo, Movielink's CEO, said in a statement.
So we're still waiting to hear if any of the Studio's will sign up to the service and allow their movies to be transferred in this way, but it's a huge leap forward. Studio's didn't want you transferring off the PC, because they lost the ability to control copying of the movie with DRM, well now it looks like Movielink have got round that problem.
Would you be happy with this solution? Are you happy enough watching them on your PC, or would you like to be able to burn downloaded movies onto DVD or even another device to watch them?
