New law records Hollywood sex scenes
The US Senate has approved new legislation about setting up a national registry for sex offenders that will include a requirement for Hollywood movies to keep records of actors ages in sex related scenes.
According to the Hollywood Reporter:
On a unanimous voice vote, the Senate approved the Adam Walsh Act setting up the registry and including a provision that would require Hollywood studios to ensure that they keep records of the ages of the actors who pretend to have sex in motion pictures and TV shows. "This legislation unites the 50 states to prevent these low-lifes from slipping through the cracks," Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., said of the legislation's underlying intent. The legislation caught the attention of Hollywood after Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., attached an amendment in the House that would have required mainstream studios to adhere to the same paperwork requirements as X-rated movie makers.
So there's not such a big deal if it's only to record their ages, but it does sound like a sneaky move from a slightly mad politician to start the ball rolling. This story is really difficult on because I feel so strongly about several aspects of it which are political and nothing to do with the film industry, but suffice to say I can see that if it's just recording ages then it's not such a bad thing, it's how they plan to use this information and then what follows this legislation that could be the worrying thing. I might take the political side to my personal blog, but for the film related side, what do you think about it? Is it just something not to be concerned about?
