Nicolas Cage to play Liberace

NicolasCage.jpgNicolas Cage, now there's a name you don't associate with camp stage entertainment, much less good movie nowadays, however strange it might sound though his name is associated with a Liberace movie, with Cage producing and starring.

The story from TMZ.com through Cinematical just gets odder and odder.

It's written by Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg who were writers on the Scary and Date Movies, strange that they're now pulling out Liberace? The story is set to focus on the alleged double life of Liberace, was he or wasn't he gay, and will begin when his ex-lover Scott Thorson took him to court for palimony. From here, it is said, Liberace struggled with his personal and public lives.

It actually sounds like it would be a very interesting story, surprising that these two writers are on the script, and even more strange that Cage is to play the man himself. It doesn't feel at all right to me, perhaps I'd be willing to give the writers a chance, but Cage in this role?

I have to agree with you, Richard, this doesn't settle completely well with me either.

The writers of spoof comedy now taking on something serious? Perhaps they can do it.

I also don't exactly see Cage pulling off this role, however he does have the tendency to surprise the movie goers with good performances every now and again. I'm definitely on the fence with this one.

Just acting in a movie you are practicing empathy; you are imagining what it is like to be another human being...and for an audience to sit together and share the experience of another person's hopes and fears...Just the simple act of attending a movie is a world bettering act; a social learning.
- Natalie Portman
