Pitt chases UK's State of Play

BradPitt.jpgState of Play was a very successful British TV miniseries starring David Morrissey as a politician who is involved in a murder conspiracy uncovered by his former campaign manager now turned journalist. It received great reviews, and now it seems as though Brad Pitt is keen to play the role of the journalist as Hollywood americanise another great British drama.

According to Variety through Coming Soon, Matthew Carnahan is writing the new script at Universal. So expect everything to be turned American, and I think that's where we could see a big loss from the original. We'll lose a lot of subtlety and style for bigger set-ups, chases, explosions. Okay, maybe I'm going over the top here, but a lot of what makes British drama so good is the British-ness of it. Why can't Hollywood take the tale and leave it in the UK? It would still work with Pitt in the role, even without him putting on a false accent.

What do you think, is this another poor example of good drama falling fowl of Hollywood restyling?

What is the moral of Icarus? Don't fly to the close to the sun or is it, as I choose to believe, build better wings?
