Filmstalker: Prince of Persia cast?

I'd forgotten all about the movie adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, but apparently it's still on the go, and there's news just out of the casting of the Prince himself.

The update comes from IMDB through Digg, so not the best of sources, but it still looks pretty strong. The Prince is set to be David K. Zandi who has starred in Men in Black II. His bio makes interesting reading.

According to historical records he is one of the last male members of the Zand dynasty which rules the Persian Empire 1747 to 1779...Studied Fencing, Roman Sword Fighting in England...Is a champion equestrian...Once when skydiving, his main parachute failed to open...He loves going skiing in the winter.

Now if those aren't good credentials I have no idea what is! He definitely looks the part, as for his acting has anyone seen him in MIBII? Can he?

Videogames to movies don't seem to work if there's not a strong base story for the film to cling on to (of course good writers and director work as well, but...) and I don't know if this game really does have that strength and depth of story to begin with...does it?

I know it's probably ridiculously hopeless but I was hoping for Johnny Depp to take the role. Bruckheimer wa involved last I heard and both would be coming off POTC. I even started a campaign a while back.........

What a pity.....

As for the game, it's story is fantastic although it may take some work to flesh it out on screen.

During an invasion on their city, the Prince is tricked into unleashing the Sands of Time by his father's closest aide who then betrays them both and kills his father. Using a magic dagger to control time he has to return the Sands and defeat his betrayer. Has some sweet twists and a nice ending but I prefer the second game, much darker.
