Silver Surfer casting rumour

SilverSurfer.jpgThere's a wild rumour out there about the Silver Surfer casting for the upcoming Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer. It's wild because there's no mention of source and the casting hasn't even officially begun, but the rumour is out there none the less.

From UK IGN:

we have received a tip that Canadian actor-model Bruce James may be the frontrunner to play the part...

...James has a supporting role in the forthcoming Snakes on a Plane. He has also appeared in TV series such as The L Word, Tru Calling and Dead Like Me.

Seems that they couldn't get hold of James' representatives for any official word. Heavy rumour it is. Unfortunately appropriate pictures of him seem to be hard to find, I'm sure he'll be tall and fit, but then with the amount of CGI that will be needed it won't really matter will it?

I thought I had read elsewhere that the Silver Surfer was going to be an entirely CG character. What gives?

You're right Conibear, it's right here.

Does it REALLY matter though who plays Silver Surfer if he's going to be CG?

No, don't get confused. That doesn't say that there is not going to be anyone cast for the role and that the character is entirely CGI.

I took that story over here to report on when it was confirmed that Diesel wasn't going to be the character, and I was very careful then not to jump on the bandwagon.

It's clearly saying no Diesel and a new CGI design will be used as the Surfer, as reported earlier in Filmstalker. New CGI design does not mean that they won't be casting anyone and that the character is going to be completely CGI.

Personally I don't think it will be all CGI, I don't think they could afford it for the effects for this film considering the returns of the first one. The main villain, interacting with the main characters in a major plotline, entirely CGI? That's either going to cost a lot, or not work very well.

I'm putting my money on an actor being cast in the role and CGI used to cover him in silver.
