Aronofsky signs up for his next project

DarrenAronofsky.jpgDarren Aronofsky has been signed to direct the film adaptation of Shannon Burke's novel Black Flies. Also involved is Todd Kesler and Eric Watson. Watson produced Aronofsky's last student film Protozoa, and Kesler wrote and produced for The Sopranos.

Hollywood Reporter through Coming Soon sums up the novel like this.

The novel follows a young man who becomes an emergency medical technician in Harlem as a temporary stop before he enters medical school. While there, he experiences a range of crises and stressful misadventures while under the eye of a mentor who has been numbed to the point that he makes a wrong decision in a life-or-death situation.

Sounds like it could be interesting, especially with Aronofsky tied to it. His previous films have not fallen into the mainstream category, so it could be we get an interesting adaptation. Does this adaptation sound appealing to you, or are you over adaptations already?

I wonder what happened to his involvement in "Flicker".

The plot sounds still very schematic. I am focused on the Fountain right now. Anyway, it´s good he is doing some work in the uncreative cinema of these days.

Rachel Weisz exclaims, "My conquistador!", ;D

Seriously, I have yet to be wowed by Aronofsky not hving seen any of his work. But I am excited to see 'The Fountain' very, very much.

Simone: Step away from the computer. Run...Don't Walk to the DVD store and pick up Requiem for a Dream. Powerful and stylish directing of this film is as fresh and original as anything these days. Watch in a dark room without distractions on the biggest screen possible.

Thanks for the tip Triflic! ;D

Wadsworth: But he was your second husband. Your first husband also disappeared.
Mrs. White: Well, that was his job. He was an illusionist.
Wadsworth: But he never reappeared!
Mrs. White: [admittedly] He wasn't a very good illusionist.
