Blair Witch: The Prequel?
In an interview about his new movie Altered, Eduardo Sánchez reveals that hope is not lost on a third Blair Witch film. It would see both he and Daniel Myrick, the original creators and directors of the film, return to the Witch.
Altered is the story of a group of men who had been abducted by aliens when they were younger. Years later they capture an Alien and take it to their cabin for what might be deemed revenge, except things don't play out quite like that.
It does sound an interesting story, and it'll be very interesting to see if these guys have outlived the Blair Witch hype. Yet it seems they haven't outlived the idea of the Blair Witch. In an interview with Fangoria through Moviehole, he says:
"I'd love to do another, especially a prequel about Elly Kedward," he says. "We've given it a lot of thought and there's even a pretty good treatment, but we'll have to wait and see what the people at Lionsgate [which took over Artisan] have to say about it."
Okay so the second was rubbish, and most people think the first was too. I'm in a different camp, I really liked the first, mainly because I managed to drop all the baggage and hype at the door and put myself in the position of watching it in that first screening, as though I was one of those first people who thought it might just be real...and for that I loved it.
The question is could they make it as strong as the original, or would they fall on lazy ground as the second film did?
