Casting: Brolin Gangster, Walken Hairspray and Paltrow
Here's a fast casting update to save me writing three stories before I race off to another screening.
Christopher Walken is to join the Hairspray musical as Wilbur Turnblad, not the previously rumoured Jim Broadbent, which is a shame, but this casting news from Variety through Coming Soon is even better.
Josh Brolin is joining Ridley Scott's American Gangster alongside Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. This film is already promising so much with its troubled history, new and improved casting, and the top notch stylish director. According to Reuters the story...
...is based on the life of drug kingpin-turned-informant Frank Lucas (Washington), who shipped heroin back to the U.S. in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. Lucas was brought to justice by lawman Richie Roberts (Crowe). The two then worked together to expose criminals on the drug circuit.Brolin will play crooked NYPD cop Det. Trupo, a greedy narcotics investigator who piggybacks on Roberts' investigation in order to bleed Lucas dry.
Finally Gwyneth Paltrow is talking about returning to acting. From The Guardian:
"For a long time, I thought, I've done it. I've done what I wanted to do. I'm not interested. I just want to be home with my family,...I had no spark for work, but I feel the feeling back. And I'm excited about the prospect. I want to do something kind of fun. I don't want to do anything depressing or mad. I want to do a really great, funny, weird character."
Well that certainly is good news as Paltrow can, at times, be a very strong actress. She just needs the right part and it sounds like she wants to try some different roles than she's often pidgeon holed in. What about Walken though, in Hairspray no less? Can we get to see him dancing on screen again?
