Corman talks Death Race 3000
Roger Corman is the producer who gave us the original Death Race 2000, and now it seems the equally B-type Paul W.S. Anderson is consulting him for the remake, Death Race 3000.
According to Sci-Fi Wire:
"Technically, according to the contract, I am executive producer," he said. "They send me each script; I have discussion and send my notes, but I don't spend that much time on it, because I don't believe I will have that much influence......I like Death Race 2000 very much. It won a poll as the greatest B movie ever made. I think what made it work was the idea of killing the old lady and getting 10 points. And, also, we were talking really about the manipulation of society and the bloodlust that was in it."
Sounds as though he's less than excited with the remake, one would wonder why he's even on the credits? Perhaps just to make that connection to the previous version?
The original starred David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone as the top competing drivers in a yearly race where points are awarded for killing innocent bystanders, and indeed it was deemed as an honour to be slaughtered by them. It's truly a B movie, but will all that charm be lost in this remake? I can't see that same idea that Corman describes above working the same way, it'll just turn into a straight horror film surely?
