Diesel in Babylon A.D.
The first time I saw that Vin Diesel was assigned to a new project called Babylon A.D. I thought that perhaps he was doing another film around the time and topic of his Hannibal, then I read the blurb and found that he's returning to his realm of sci-fi.
Diesel will play the lead in the film directed and joint screenwritten by Mathieu Kassovitz who did such a good job on Gothika, La Haine and the superb The Crimson Rivers. The story is from the French novel called Babylon Babies by Maurice Dantec, and according to UK IGN:
Diesel will be playing Thoorop, a toughened war veteran and mercenary who takes on the assignment of escorting a woman from Russia to Canada. The mission turns deadly when it's discovered that the woman carries a strange organism inside her — one that an American cult hopes to use in producing a genetically modified Messiah
Oooh...sounds all a bit bizarre, but very interesting. I have to say although Diesel is great in his previous sci-fi films, I'd love to see him continue his serious acting career that he really kicked into gear with Find Me Guilty. This guy has a lot more talent than he's letting on, much like Rock. Still, I won't complain, and either will he as he builds up cash to enable him to get his Hannibal film made.
