Kevin Smith turns to Horror

KevinSmith.jpgKevin Smith has announced that his next project is going to be a horror movie. Now there's a departure if ever I heard one.

I first caught the news through Askew (a Kevin Smith news aggregator), and then the more official report over at Comic Book Resources:

A straightforward "what's next" led to a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine if Smith would reveal his upcoming project. Although the fan lost the match, Smith said that he would be making a horror film.

That's all folks, so it might just be an offhand comment or something to twist the fans about a little, but he said horror film.

There's a big so what at this point for me, I haven't seen Clerks (I know!) but I will get to see Clerks II next week at the EIFF, as for his other films...well they have showed some sparkle, but I've never thought any were great. My opinion though, and there are many fans out there, so for all the Smith fans, how do you feel about the suggested move to horror?

Hey Richard, even though I don't think you need to Clerks before watching Clerks I would recommend a viewing. There are jokes related not only to Smith's other films, but to Clerks as well. Plus, it'd be good to become familiar with Dante and Randal (the main characters.)

I completely enjoyed Clerks II, I haven't laughed so hard during a movie in a very long time. It's crass and at times, pretty damn offensive. I think I walked away a little scarred...lol. It's not as charming as the first Clerks, but it definitely has just as many laughs. Oh and as usual get ready for the "serious" moment that always pops up in Smith's movie.

Hm, I forgot to commment about the actual post! Kevin Smith directing a horror movie...hmm...it's kind of hard for me to visualize. I don't know how I feel about it - I really like horror movies - but Smith taking on horror? I'm a fan of Smith and I would like to see him do something a little different.

Kevin Smith has done yet nothing to prove his prestige. It´s a cheap Woody Allen without the tallents.

I have to say I like a lot of the films Smith has directed although 'Clerks' didn't make much of an impression, but saying that I am interested in seeing the new one due to the clips I've seen so far. As for him directing horror, I'm not a big fan of the genre but I would be interested to see how he handles it and its good to see he's not simply sticking to what he knows and what his fans expect and changing direction a little.

Johnny: This? Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl.
