Marvel announces film schedule

Superheroes.jpgMarvel has announced it's earnings for the past quarter and with that revealed the current state of play with it's release and development schedule. For your excitement and pleasure, here's the official list.

From Yahoo Business through SuperHero Hype comes the list, I've narrowed it down to the movies for you.

Once again I look at this and wonder about some of the names there. Some I can see have potential, and others I'm just scratching my head at. What do you think? Some daft developments, or is there room for them all?

For Release: Ghost Rider, Sony - In post-production, February 16, 2007 release Spider-Man 3, Sony - In production, May 4, 2007 release Fantastic Four 2, Fox - In early pre-production, June 15, 2007 release

In Development:
Ant-Man, Marvel - Writer and director engaged
Captain America, Marvel - Writer engaged
The Incredible Hulk, Marvel - Writer and director engaged
Iron Man, Marvel - Writer and director engaged, slated for May 2, 2008
Nick Fury, Marvel - Writer engaged
Thor, Marvel - Writer engaged
The Avengers, Black Panther, Cloak & Dagger, Doctor Strange, Hawkeye, Power Pack and Shang-Chi are also projects to be developed

For Development:
Wolverine, Fox
The Punisher 2, Lionsgate
Magneto, Fox
Namor, Universal
Luke Cage, Sony

Yeah, I'm still scratching my head at these names...please someone enlighten me as to why Namor, Cloak & Dagger, Power Pack, Shang-Chi all deserve their own projects over someone like Silver Surfer?

I guess if FF4 2 does well Silver Surfer may get his own movie but he is tied up in that franchise for now. I never really liked Silver surfer myself, Ghost rider was the film I really wanted to see until they cast Cage and made it PG-13, there's a good chance it will now suck. What I really wanted to see was spirits of Vengeance which was Blaze and Ghost rider fighting demons and was a really cool comic book series.

Cloak and Dagger I only read once or twice when I was a kid, but it does have potential.

I want to see Luke Cage that might well rule, they where going to make a Deadpool movie at one point he's a great character.

Those are all D.C. heroes dude !

In the picture I mean, d'oh !

I know! I don't have the luxury of searching the web for the right photos sometimes...I'm sorry I've failed you so badly.

Well hello there mate. Again congrats on the engagment.

Allow me if you will to step into the shoes of the comic book expert here and give you a bit of light for these noted characters.

Now the given projects which we are all looking forward to are easy. Ghost Rider, Spidy 2 and FF2; these are easy and I would expect all of them to be done well due to the compitition within the comic genre today.

Now as for the "development" titles, there are a number of them which I can assure you would be spectacular on the silver screen.

Let's start with the ones we know are coming, the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. Both of these films have great potential, we have discussed the mess the retcon of the Hulk will create, but in any event it will turn out fine. As for Iron Man, this has the potential as being one of the best comic films we've seen. Iron Man is a dynomite character and the fact that he is a real man -like a Bruce Wyane- allows people to connect to him and will be the type of hero kids will want to be like -smart and strong-. The Iron Man picture has plenty of story behind it, so the fate of this franchise is soly in the hands of it's director J.F.

You asked about Namor, and I must tell you, here is another character who has been around the town more than once. Namor is a god/hero type character who is the last of his people. He has some really cool powers, has the potential of looking amazing on screen and in speacial effects, and due to his plentiful cross overs in the past, the number of characters who can make apperences is almost unlimited. Look to see a pretty intense Namor film, with a strong amount of underwater CGI.

The next character I would love to see is Shang-Chi. Again just a human with great skill and balls of steal. This film will be fun because it will not follow the common comic film formula. It will be more of a Chan film, infact Chan could nab the job, or Jet Li. Look to see Fu Manchu as the primary villain.

As for the rest, I see no reason for an Ant Man film, nor a Nick Fury - wasn't the David Hasselhof one bad enough?

Capt. America - cool
Thor - stupid
Avengers - wont work, to many big names and it would get messy.
Magneto & Wolverine - cool
Punisher 2 - not needed
Luke Cage - will be OK, he's really strong and will toss cars around and stuff.
