Mortal Kombat 3 a prequel
So after DOA: Dead or Alive, it looks like Mortal Kombat is going to get another spin in it's third installment which will be a prequel focussing on the character Sub Zero...as a hero.
Now I'm no Kombat vet, to be honest the fighting games just don't appeal to me, but I'm told that Sub Zero is one of the bad guys and has been for some time but that he has a long past of many guises. According to Moviehole with some help from The Unofficial Mortal Kombat 3 Page:
as a hero, the film will track back a few years, fixing on the younger – more honorable years – of the character, it seems. (What one has to remember, too, is that Sub Zero has a long bloodline – so the Sub Zero in this new prequel, might also be simply a relation of the one we’ve seen previously...)
Actor Robin Shou, who has been a star of the previous Kombat films, won't be returning in these and he's quite harsh about the reasons for the wait and for the prequel idea - to cut out the current actors and drop costs. Yeah, well it could be true, or it could be that there wasn't such a big market for it for a while. Perhaps now with more videogame movies out there and the arrival of DOA, that there's seen to be a window.
Amusingly Shou has found himself a role in DOA. Maybe he jumped ship in time and got onboard the more successful of the two films?
