No Escape from Earth movie

SnakePilskin.jpgRecently I wrote about John Carpenter and Kurt Russell working on a new Escape from movie, and that Russell had secured a three picture deal that meant Escape from Earth would be made. Well apparently it was just that, rumour.

According to AICN the rumour stopped as soon as they got in touch with Carpenter and received the official response below:

Carpenter himself shot the entire rumor down today when we spoke. "ESCAPE FROM EARTH is an idea we had several years ago, but it never really got any further than that" he said. When I asked him if he’d met at Paramount, he just laughed. "Nope." In an e-mail, his wife and producer Sandy King also emphasized how untrue the story was.

"John has just spent a rousing week playing Tom Clancy's war video games and smoking in his favorite chair and eating fried chicken. Need I say more?"

So that's the rumour dead then. Shame, I usually try and make sure I'm confident about a story before I write it up, but in this case my excitement just got the better of me, I really wanted this to be true. Come on, surely a final Snake story would be something we would all pay to see, if we're willing to go and watch normal snakes on a plane, what about the Snake on a spaceship?

You have to be careful with B.D. they seem to be building links by rumour mongering at the moment. I mean who really thought George Clooney would be in a Pet Cemetery re-make.

I would love to see Escape become a trilogy as well...

I know. Although I did print that I was extremely sceptical of it.

Burned now, and I'm really going to watch them from now on. Would you guys prefer not to hear rumour and more fact, even if it's not breaking news?

Pinch of salt for BD please!

As long as it's posted as "rumour" what's the harm?

Let them gain a reputation by doing this. They'll either continue and lose readers or drop their sources.

Either way we need not assume it's true.

Personally I don’t mind a bit of rumour based stuff after all that’s part of the fun of the internet and blogs, but within reason. I think B.D. are defiantly using wild rumours to increase inbound links/traffic as stories like that will get picked up all over the net. Even though that’s what they are doing, they are too big for it to hurt them, smaller sites would not be able to get away with that for long.

Okay, so this didn't pan out. That's too bad cuz it would've been good. But how about getting Kurt a cameo on Snakes on a Plane? You know, Snake's on a Plane. And boy is he pissed!

Okay, so that might not work either.

"Snake's on a Plane. And boy is he pissed!"

That would be worth reshooting the film for!

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."
- Jack Burton, Big Trouble in Little China
