Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writer\director talks

TMNT_Leonardo_Poster.jpgThe writer\director of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, Kevin Munroe, has been talking about the new direction the film will be taking, and although he seems to start off in the right direction I just don't think there's consistency in what's being said.

For instance he talks about wanting to ground the film in reality and then talks about once that's done they'll push the monsters in and the hundred foot ninjas...Yeah, look I get sarcasm and all, I'm British, but it still seems like that's pulling the characters in two different directions to me.

The story from MTV through FilmRot...

"The over-the-top-ness worked for [a while], in the same way the Adam West stuff worked for what [the 'Batman' TV show] was. But it's getting back in this culture to where people expect a certain amount of grounded reality to it.

"Once we suck them in with that reality," he continued, "then we'll start pushing the look of the monsters, creatures and hundred-foot-high ninjas fighting four turtles."...

..."I really wanted to push this idea of them being teenagers, being a dysfunctional family...using state-of-the-art CGI muscle systems and popping veins. All of these things are us saying, 'Let's create this sense of believable reality.'

Yes, and then throw hundred foot ninjas at them. I still feel these two ideas are pulling in different directions. The interview goes on and we learn that the storyline will be similar to the Ghostbusters films, someone trying to achieve immortality in our world by using big huge monsters and...blah blah blah. I'm just not sure about this one, I bet the fans out there though are dying to see it.
