The Bridge trailer online
Even more trailers today, and this one is for the controverisal documentary I'd mentioned some time ago, The Bridge. The film that studies the lives of some of the people to have jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge, featuring actual footage of their last moments.
If you remember I wrote about this back in April, and the controversy that the film had caused. Firstly setting up cameras under a pretence in order to get the film, this was mainly to ensure he didn't encourage anyone to jump, but it caused a storm with officials.
In applying for permits, Steel told Golden Gate Bridge District officials he was shooting a film about national landmarks. In reality, he had stationed cameras on each side of the bridge, reloading film hourly, to record suicides from the bridge every day during 2004, something the bridge district learned only after he was finished, in January 2005. Film crews called 911 to report every suspicious-looking person, attempted jump and actual jump they witnessed.
That original story has some quite strong quotes in it, and does make you think that the film itself would be quite tough to watch. Well now the trailer is out and it backs up that thought. This film will not be an easy one to see, but it will be worth it.
The film isn't focussing just on these jumps and this footage, it interviews survivors of these people, their friends and families, and attempts to understand why they came to this point, and hopefully bring a lesson to us all.
You can see the trailer over at Apple [QT]. It carries a warning that some may find the subject matter disturbing.
