The Illusionist clip online

TheIllusionist.jpgThere's a new clip for The Illusionist movie starring Edward Norton online, and this is showing off the very man's on stage talent for the magical.

The lighting looks great, the theatrics good, but that accent Mr Norton, well it is a little dodgy. When I watched the tricks I thought they all looked very believeable and engaging, until the final one with the tree. The problem there is that it all looked CGI, and as soon as that happened it detracted from the idea of illusion, because when we look at it we can see computer magic...which isn't magic at all.

I think that's a shame, because I'd want to be able to see the illusions and be taken in by them, even onscreen. After all if we as the audience can't believe his tricks, how can we expect the characters in the story?

What do you think of the clip? It's hosted over at IGN Filmforce [Flash:Embed] [WMV:QT:M:Dload].

I have yet to review this film in my blog but since I have also seen The Prestige, I would recommend The Prestige if you want to be entertained with magic tricks and illusions because The Illusionist quite lacks that. Still a good film with wonderful performances from Giamatti and Norton.
