Fox Chairman talks Galactus and Surfer

SilverSurfer.jpgTim Rothman is the Chairman at 20th Century Fox, and he likes to keep involved in projects, for instance he's been talking to Bruce Willis about the filming of Live Free Die Hard, so he knows what's going on, and he's just confirmed we will see Galactus in The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer.

In an interview with IESB he says the following:

...look, I don't want to give away too much, right, but I will say this, Galactus will appear and fans will not be disappointed.

So he's in, and what of the Surfer himself? Rothman seems positive on a seqeul:

Well, I don't want to be exuberant, but I will say this, we are investing a tremendous amount of money, time and care, to make the state of the art CGI Silver Surfer, to make him as great as modern technology can make him. And, the only thing that I would say is that the real, the ultimate pay off of that level of investment and doing it to its fullest possible extent, would really come if we are able to make future films.

He also tells us that Surfer has a traditional look, and yes that means a surfboard. We can expect to start seeing what he looks like early next year, we're being promised loads of teaser and trailer footage of him.

whoop...he let it slip that the surfer will be cgi...at least in a few shots...

we've been waiting for that nugget for some time, have we not?

I don't think he's saying Surfer will be full CGI. He's acknowledging that a lot of CGI will be used.

We've already heard from Jones and stories about WETA's involvement that there's going to be a real mix of CGI and real life character in there.

I've been saying that for ages, and hoping that's the way they do it. Full CGI and it'll lose all that reality of a real person.

Real or CG, if they write a script for 8 year olds like they did with the first movie, this sequel will have the same legs. I am so sick with the the "work for hire" mentality on super hero storytelling. Look, I think it's great that Doug Jones has another job, but let's not get carried away. It's still the Fantastic Four sequel. :p

You're totally right Dave, if they can't improve on that script then this could be the only outing for the Surfer. You can probably tell from all the posts though, this is the only interesting aspect of the film for me, and I wanted a Surfer film on its own. I am concerned that the Four will bring him down, but I hope not.

Oh, I think Silver Surfer and Galactus are the only things worth noting about this project. Still, my expectations are loooowwwwww.
