The Thing prequel
The creative drought of Hollywood has no end in sight and with the news appearing that writers are being sought to create a prequel to the John Carpenter classic The Thing, any thought of them turning away from raping classic work is gone.
From Fangoria through Cinematical comes the news that Strike Entertainment (Slither and Dawn of the Dead) are looking to do it.
The idea of making something more of The Thing has been hanging around for ages, but nothing has ever made it far enough to be a movie. So let's through the lack of creativity to the side for the moment and let's look at what it would actually mean to create another film based on The Thing.
I think it's fair to say that most people would love to see what happens to the characters left alive in the closing scenes of the film, and yet that's where I think a lot of the beauty of the film lies. So to a prequel, and strangely, I think it might well work, my only thought is can they stay true to the original backstory and still gleam something out of it to make a film, or are they going to rip it apart merely to recreate an earlier version of the classic Thing?
