Bridge to Terabithia trailer online

BridgetoTerabithia.jpgFollowing in the trend of magical kingdom films adapted from childrens novels comes Bridge to Terabithia, which is not the first adaptation as Bridge to Terabithia was made from the book in 1982. Beware however the blurb for the 1982 version on IMDB is a plot giveaway. Now though, you can see the trailer for the new version online, and it looks rich and exciting.

The blurb from IMDB for the 2007 version doesn't give away the plot, but also doesn't sound as exciting as the first, but then I've just had the story spoiled for me so I guess any tease isn't as good as knowning what happens!

Fifth grader Jesse Aaron's hopes of becoming the fastest runner in his class are dashed when new girl Leslie Burke outruns everybody, including him. However, Jess and Leslie soon begin a friendship, and discover a magical kingdom in the forest, where the two of them reign together as king and queen.

You can see the trailer over at AOL [QT:Direct] through Movie-List Forums.

What do you think? The visual effects look wonderful, but is there room for another fantasy that seems to cover very similar ground to such stories as Narnia?

I remember reading this book when I was in the fourth grade. The story was so sweet and touching, it had stayed with after all these years. I hope the movie doesn't deviate from the book.

If the movie is going to be anything like the book then the trailer is terribly misleading. This is one of my favorite childhood books, which I read at least four times. Terabithia is a place that Jess and Leslie visit in their imaginations in the forest, but a lot of the book takes place in the real world.

While I realize giving us a visual of what they're imagining makes for a better movie it's not what this movie is about. I hope that future trailers show us a little more about the real story because if the makers have chosen to mainly focus on the imagined world then it's really not The Bridge to Terabithia. Some of the light reading I've done about the movie says it'll be like the book, so we'll just have to wait and see.

The trailer's okay. It has a few nice visual moments, but it's not all that striking. I didn't read the novel, so maybe I'm expecting something that wasn't THERE.
