Serenity death rumours greatly exaggerated
Yes it seems the rumours about the death of Serenity have been greatly exaggerated, and Joss Whedon says so. This week the sites have been buzzing with the news that there was never, ever going to be another Serenity\Firefly film or TV show ever, and that Whedon was killing it off for good. Well, apparently not.
According to Whedonesque, here's what he said:
There's no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I'm not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there. I've seen Nathan and Tim (and Summer and Alan) recently because they're my friends because I'm so, yeah, awesome. So let's put that to bed and smother it with a pillow.
Just in case there's confusion, the smothering comment is about the smothering of the current rumour of a Serenity sequel in the works, in fact the line before he was just saying he was discussing a sequel project with someone, so he's just saying it's not Serenity.
This was picked up and suddenly became the story of Whedon killing off Serenity forever. Again on Whedonesque he sorts that one out:
I will absolutely, posatively never ever do any kind of Serenity sequel or spinoff unless a studio asks me. Politely. Or meanly, that's cool too.
Now, that is a different light on the whole story isn't it? Deep breath everyone, and...out. There will be one if a studio gets the right deal together, but the rumours that have been passing around about one on the go now? Not true.
He also says Wonder Woman has been cast...is he joking? He does say it's 'lonelygirl'...
