Zack Snyder talks Watchmen

Watchmen.jpgZack Snyder is the latest Director lined up for the Watchmen project, and he's talked online about some of his plans for the film, and how he intends to tackle some of the filming. From the brief comments he makes it does sound quite promising.

"We're getting ready to turn a script that we like into this studio...They're pretty excited about it…I think the script that Alex (Tse) has done for us is the closest to the graphic novel it's been [since development started], for better or for worse. I feel like Alex has done an awesome job. It's keeping all the things that are cool about the comic"

Well that would appear to be one of the biggest issues, people have raved about the previous script and how close it was to the comics, and then we hear that Alex Tse is onboard to add more action, and other worrying rumours. So this could be very positive, and I think after we see 300 (see the trailer for evidence), this will be seen as incredibly positive from Snyder.

"1985's a problem for people,...The Cold War's a problem for people. But these are things I've been trying to [tell people] would be cool. I like that Richard Nixon is the president in it. I think that's important. Those kinds of things tell you exactly what kind of movie this is – it's not Fantastic Four, you know"

Now, that's even better news. I actually think the aspects of the Cold War and Nixon are vital to the story. It sets the entire underlying feeling of paranoia that's throughout the story. Good news Snyder. What are the other fans of Watchmen thinking right now?

Don't say anything yet, Snyder has even more to say, and I think it's even more good news. See the full story..

There are places like Mars and Antarctica [which will need to be blue screen] and then there are certain places where you need to feel the reality…If you look at Sin City, a blue screen city, that’s kind of wrong for Watchmen…There are so many easter eggs in the frames (of the comic) so you want that level of detail in the movie itself. Even though it’s going to be harder to do.

Oh even better. I like that. Watchmen carries a gritty reality, a huge grounding in our world (hence the Superheroes who are just men without powers.

The interview over at Empire through Twitch goes on to say that there are quite a few people trying to get in on the casting already, but there's nothing been decided as yet.

Who would you cast? I have some really controversial ideas that I'm going to keep quiet for now, I'll either anger everyone or just kill any potential discussion!

Everything he's said here though has really been positive, and I'm starting to get excited for the whole project again.

Checked his IMDb profile, he is also helming Clancy's "Rainbow Six"?

How much will the movie cost to be believable? That, nowadays, is an important question. Bringing Watchmen to the screen as I remember it would exceed an usual budget by far.

It´s good that at least they don´t want to make another Sin City crap.

About the casting: fresh new faces. Learn that from Bryan Singer. I don´t wanna see big stars in those big roles. I´d hate to see a big name playing Dr. Manhattan. I want to see Dr. Manhattan.

I am very sceptical about this project anyway.
