Aronofsky directs biblical epic

DarrenAronofsky.jpgAccording to Darren Aronofsky his next film he'll be making after The Fountain and Flicker is a biblical epic. That may take you by surprise, but is it really such a big leap from some of the direction of The Fountain and the subtext of some of his other films?

According to CHUD through Coming Soon:

DA: The new thing is even more exciting, and I'll give you an exclusive. I'm not going to tell you exactly what it is, but…it's a biblical epic...

...CHUD: What led you to that?
DA: It's something I've wanted to do for a long time. Before Pi. Probably ten years ago, I had an idea. Actually, I wrote a poem about it when I was in 7th grade. I won this award for it -- my first writing award. So it's a story from the Bible that kind of stuck with me. About ten years ago I was at a museum that featured an exhibit that reminded me of it. So we've been trying to crack it for a while, and we finally figured out a direction. But…I can't tell you any more.

Interesting. Of course when I think biblical epic I think The Robe or Ten Commandments. I wonder what Aronofsky has up his sleeve, because you can be sure it's not the standard fare you can imagine, and it'll most likely be something slight (if not wholly) off track. Is there even room in this modern world for a biblical epic without it reflecting moden times and beliefs?

There are loads of stuff from the Bible that can make good films that's for sure and with still timely messages. Just look at the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and there's loads there.

I still havent seen The Robe and I just added it to my rental queue.

I think something from the Old Testament would be great, I would love to see Darren Aronofsky cover one of those tales.

During the time of King David's rule is one of those. Full of emotion and action.

Or the prophecies in the Daniel book.

There's a new feature post, Richard, favourite religious films...

Great idea James...it'll go on the list. Surprise feature popped up this weekend and should be posted later today.

After I look at a new wedding venue!

Ehr, yours I assume Rich? ;D

Of course. Just been and it looks lovely...may well be making the decision this week.
