Iwo Jima for Golden Globes?
It's just been announced that Clint Eastwood's Letters From Iwo Jima has made the cut off date for Golden Globe consideration, but surprisingly it must compete in the Foreign Language film category because it's all in Japanese. Seems like the Golden Globes have managed to get their Foreign Language category right, rather than the Oscars who I think would exclude this from that category because it has an American director. It might also be dropped if there's more than a certain percentage filmed outside the country it's nominated from. Stupid.
However, the good news is that for the Golden Globes it's in, it also means that it's eligible for other awards, and The Envelope suggests that Ken Watanabe might be up for Best Actor.
Does that mean Eastwood will have two films in the running for the Oscars, both on the same subject?
