Kidman beats Roberts in salary

NicoleKidman.jpgNicole Kidman has just usurped Julia Roberts as the highest paid actress, a top spot that Roberts held for five solid years until she stepped to the side and Kidman stole the show in 2006.

She commands somewhere between US$16-17 million a film, and all the while they're blaming pirated films for the downturn of profits. I see a big win right there.

Still it's not the all time highest salary for an actress, Roberts still holds that with the US$20 million fee she commanded a few years ago, and it's a further US$5 million short of the salaries commanded by actors such as Tom Cruise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter through Yahoo News, it wasn't really Kidman's earning power that won her the title, more that Roberts let her:

Roberts gave birth to twins in November 2004 and made her Broadway debut this year in "Three Days of Rain." But she failed to make the top-10 movie actress salary list this year because she did not star in a live-action film released in 2006...

Interestingly, the rest of the list is quite an eye opener:

Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz -- earned an estimated $15 million per film each...Halle Berry, Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie at Nos. 6, 7 and 8 with acting fees of $14 million, $10 million and $10 million, respectively.

Five of the top ten were Oscar winners, now does that say that winning an Oscar isn't exactly good for the career or it is? Certainly doesn't seem negative but it does look like a split decision.
