Rodriguez talks Grindhouse franchise?!
Robert Rodriguez has been hinting at the possibilities for a Grindhouse sequel and indeed franchise after this first film comes out. Personally I think it's a bit too soon to be counting any chickens for a franchise, but the chances for a sequel have to be high, and Rodriguez tells us where that's likely to come from.
In an interview with MTV that Time Out carries, he says that they are already considering the idea.
'The best thing about Grindhouse is how easily it can be a franchise...We can do kung fu, blaxploitation, you name it.'
So the threads are there, but what would kick off the stories? Well, the fake trailers no less. In between the two main features, one directed by Rodriguez and one by Quentin Tarantino, there's going to be a bunch of fun, fake trailers, trailers that could lead onto complete films.
'If those trailers are great enough, they might be part of the feature we do for the next Grindhouse,'
We've heard talk before from these two that they can throw anything at the trailers as they don't have to fill out the story, they just have a trailer length to tell the best idea they can. Building films out of that sort of creative freedom would be superb to see, but perhaps we have to wait to see how the main film is received first.
