Short Circuit remake!

JohnnyFive.jpgShort Circuit, that film that featured the wonderfully lovable robot Number (Johnny) 5 and the equally lovable character Ben Jabituya, is set to be remade according to rumours, and although you might feel robbed that another classic film is about to be remade by Hollywood I think this one just might not be as bad as you first think.

The original sees one of a group of experimental robots hit by lightning, somehow this gives the robot a sense of self-awareness. It realises what awaits them back at the military lab and escapes, and with the help of a few friends he develops a personality, and understanding of life, and even a soul.

It's a great fun movie, and even the sequel is fun and slightly emotional...ahem. Of course I didn't think so, but my girlfriend does...anyway, moving on.

According to Moviehole through Jo Blo, John Badham's directed film is to pass over to a new director, but other cast members will return, there's just no word on who yet. You can bet the voice of Five will be there, Tim Blaney.

Apparently this is a pretty strong rumour, and has been confirmed from "up the food chain", mind you in Hollywood the food chain isn't exactly over developed is it? Okay, low blow.

Seriously though, I think this might work as a remake, and taken in a slightly different direction it could make for a stronger story. Am I just mad on that thought?

The original film was quirky. What it lacked in "effects" it gained with personality.

IF, the remake is done with the same personality and uses effects to make the characters slightly more believable(it was touch and go whether the robots were for some time) then this will rake it in at the box office.

I loved the old Short Circuit movies as a kid. A remake is an interesting idea. The old characters and actors should return though.

Richard, I have just checked all the features you've done and none has been done for remakes. Can I suggest in a future feature article that we discuss films we think ought NOT to be remade or films that we think could work with a remake, I am sure there will be a few films that can make either list. What ya think? ;)

Yes Simone! Didn't I say on the community that this one was coming?

I'm behind in my writing...one review, one feature and emails galore...I'm trying!

I couldnt access the Hive at work for some reason because I am sure you did mention it somewhere, that's great then if it's in the works! ;)

I dont remember having seen this film though.

Wadsworth: But he was your second husband. Your first husband also disappeared.
Mrs. White: Well, that was his job. He was an illusionist.
Wadsworth: But he never reappeared!
Mrs. White: [admittedly] He wasn't a very good illusionist.
