Stone talks third Alexander DVD release

Alexander_Poster.jpgBack in July we heard that Oliver Stone was set to create a third and final version of his controversial film Alexander, this one was to feature all the footage he shot before and edited out, all the parts of the man's life that he was forced to remove to reduce running time, alter the story flow, and remove all the bisexual connetations from the film.

Now though it looks certain it's coming to the small screen and according to Stone it will have a running time of 220 minutes, that's three hours and forty minutes long! Luckily it comes with an intermission.

A press release carried by Rope of Silicon from DVD Times that the final release is called Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut.

The two-disc set features a new introduction by the director..."Over the last two years I have been able to sort out some of the unanswered questions about this highly complicated and passionate monarch -- questions I failed to answer dramatically enough. This film represents my complete and last version, as it will contain all the essential footage we shot. I don't know how many filmmakers have managed to make three versions of the same film, but I have been fortunate to have the opportunity because of the success of video and DVD sales in the world, and I felt if I didn't do it now, with the energy and memory I still have for the subject, it would never quite be the same again. For me, this is the complete Alexander, the clearest interpretation I can offer."

If you haven't seen Alexander, you can read a review of the Director's Cut on DVD on Filmstalker, but it's pretty good and has the potential to be one hell of an epic with this complete release.

I just never got into this film at all. Might have something to do with mr farrel and the always terrible(cept girl interrupted) ms jolie.

Sounds like(after reading the filmstalker review) i need to get rid of my soapbox and have another go at it.

hmm, but i like my soapbox.

I've seen this movie once. I had won a prize and got to see it before it's release along with the press. I felt really positive about it at the time. But never got to see it EVER again. Can't they let the movie die? Or are they hoping they can still squeeze some money out of it...

I didn't make it past the first half hour on one of the earlier DVDs. The acting seemed so wooden and the film so lifeless I jumped ship. And I'm normally a big fan of Colin Farell.

I see they've also announced this will be released on HD-DVD in February. I wonder if there'll be many takers!

It's funny Ian, I struggled the first time I tried to watch the DVD and did exactly that, but second time I stuck through the first hour and the story did pull me in. It did take a while though, and it wasn't Farrell that pulled me in.
