Austin and National Critics announce winners

More award announcements with the Austin Film Critics Association Awards and the National Society of Film Critics both announcing their winners of this years winners.

For the Austin Film Critics the Best Film went to United 93 (Filmstalker review) which I don't think is a huge surprise, with Best Actor going to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Departed (Filmstalker review). Actually looking at the list it's quite a break from the other awards that are being nominated and announced just now.

The National Film Critics announced Pan's Labyrinth (Filmstalker review) the best film, and that really is a surprise. Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker were awarded Best Actor and Actress for The Queen and The Last King of Scotland respectively, royalty winning out this year.

Paul Greengrass took Best Director for United 93, Peter Morgan's screenplay for The Queen was voted the best, as were Mark Wahlberg for The Departed and Meryl Streep for The Devil Wears Prada and A Prairie Home Companion (Filmstalker review). Quite an interesting list again.

Here's the complete lists...

And I promise you I'll never desert you again because after 'Salome' we'll make another picture and another picture. You see, this is my life! It always will be! Nothing else! Just us, the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark!... All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.
