Battlestar Galactica film?
There's been word over the last couple of days of a possible Battlestar Galactica film, although the current word is that it might be a straight to DVD, there's talk of it none the less.
I caught the story yesterday from someone and lost it, but today it's appeared over at YourTV.com.au from geekmonthly.com.
Apparently Universal have yet to greenlight it, but the talks are underway. The idea is that the film would be a standalone one and not tied to knowledge of the series, and would be filmed between the third and fourth series.
I did read that the ratings this year have dropped for the show, and to be honest it's not really grabbing huge audiences anyway, but the studio are doing something clever for a change, they're looking at its widespread appeal and it's audience for DVD and realising that there's money to be had and sticking with it. Most times we see them even sniff a drop in figures or a slow take on and they'll dump a series without a second thought, and quite often they dump good series and keep bad.
Anyway, I'm glad it's ongoing, even if I can't see the show and rely on the DVD release (currently awaiting series 2!), and I'm really interested in a film version but what I'd love to see is a cinema release, but I don't think we'll see that. Would you want to see this on the big screen? Is there an audience for it or would they have to redo the first series in film form?
