Disappointing Messenger clips online

PangBrothers.jpgThere are some clips online for The Messengers, the film coming from the Pang Brothers who are directing their first Hollywood horror.

There's already been some talk of the ending of the film being reshot without the Pang brothers being involved, and that is worrying. Never mind that these guys are really strong creating Asian horrro films, but the fact that a director made a film and then has the ending remade by someone else.

That aside the clips online give me mixed feelings. I like some of the work that's been done on shots with angles and setups, but almost all of these scenes plays on one aspect, the drawing out of a scene. Time and time again in the creepy scenes you see something being pointed out, or the character knows something is there, but they don't look, and in one scene with the girl holding the boy as he points behind her, there's a race of cuts which actually break the suspense. There's also that opening crow scene, which goes on too long and looks just plain daft.

You can see the clips over at Bloody Digusting. There's six of them in all and they can all be selected by the window to the right hand side of the clip itelf, or here they are listed out.

Crow Attack, Playing With Baby, Who's Up There?, Where Are They?, What Are You Pointing At?, Pitchfork Chase. [Flash:Embed]

I don't know, I am holding out hope for the full film and the Pang Brothers, I hope they can do something good with this before their doomed Nicolas Cage remake of Bangkok Dangerous called Time to Kill falls flat on its face and they leave Hollywood to make decent films. Mind you, perhaps that's a good thing.
