A live action Ghost in the Shell? I find that hard to believe, and yet here is the news today that the rights have been bought from the publisher by an animation company to sell on for a live action remake.

Production I.G. has just acquired the rights from Kodansha for the visually exciting animated story, and although no more details are available the story, from Variety through Coming Soon, tells us that the rights are to be sold on for the live action remake.

The time is most definitely right for films like these to make it to the big screen, the effects and CGI are coming of age, the popularity is there, so there's no reason this couldn't work, is there? Will a live action version work?
