Jackie Chan denies retirement
Jackie Chan retiring? Not likely. He has announced that he has ten films on his production slate for his new production company he's just set-up in China.
According to the Associated Press story and his official site through CBS News:
"I just started a company in China and I will be producing 10 films...I need to meet the new directors. I need to read the screenplays and listen to ideas for more screenplays. I need to look at director reels to hire more directors for this big project,"
I wonder if all the films will be action comedies? I really do hope that he's going to use his western fame to build the Chinese film industry and make a lot more serious films, and films that have far less action and comedy in them. Not that I'm knocking that type of film, just that I think the more general western view of Chan in his home industry is of these types of film.
Interestingly the first announced production project is The Wind, which is a US$25 million animated film written and directed by Edward Yang. The main character of the film is a martial arts expert modelled on Chan himself, and Chan and his stunt team are going to oversee the action scenes in the film. So action at least then. Could this be the animated Chan series on film?
