Pink Panther 2 rewritten

ReturnofthePinkPanther_Poster.jpgI can't believe that the rubbish peddled out in the form of the first The Pink Panther is going to be repeated in a sequel, and the script that was previously written is undergoing a rewrite by screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel.

They are known for rewriting and "polishing" other scripts such as Hitch, 50 First Dates, National Treasure, Kangaroo Jack, Stuart Little 2, etc. So I think it's fair to say there's not much hope then for this sequel. Giving the writers credit though, they do have some good films to their credits, so perhaps there's going to be some good writing ruined by the fact that Peter Sellers defined this character and he just cannot be beaten.

Steve Martin is set to return in the role and so far there's no word on a director, but the director of the first remake, Shawn Levy is executive producing. There goes Sellers, spinning like mad.

It's amazing though that despite the bad reviews and the poor rating on IMDB, according to the story in The Hollywood Reporter, the first remake earned US$158.7 million!

This sounds awful, and a straight cash generator if ever I heard of one. There's just no other reason to carry on this dreadful attempt at remaking a character that is defined and tied to one person so well, this isn't James Bond.
