Silver Surfer - Director asks for help

SilverSurfer.jpgTim Story, the director of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, is looking for some assistance. He wants your suggestions for who you would like to hear as the voice of the Silver Surfer. A simple question, until you start thinking about it.

Take a few moments to think about how you think of his voice in your head, if you read the comment that is, and if not think about what the herald of the most feared creature in the Universe would sound like. James Earl Jones? Perhaps he's too recognisable, but he's got the sort of powerful, presence filled voice that you would want.

Who would you choose? Discuss and suggest your answers here, but also pop your final answers over to Tim on his own blog entry for the question.

What about Hugo Weaving? His voice has a got nice timbre to it.

In all honesty, I've never imagined the Surfer having a voice with the kind of depth and majesty that Galactus would require. James Earl Jones and Hugo Weaving are good choices for the devourer of worlds, but I always imagined Norrin Radd would sound more like a regular guy with maybe some minor digital manipulation to make it sound like a voice that carries through space (despite the lack of air).

My top choices (in no particular order):
-Viggo Mortensen
-Johnny Depp (that guy can do anything)
-Gary Oldman (think Dracula without the accent)
-Kevin Spacey

You can't have someone that sounds too young. The voice needs to sound mature and authoritative, but kind of gentle at the same time. Remember, he's not really a bad guy at his core. He became Galactus' herald to save his own world, not out of malace or a lust for power. He behaves the way he does because he's being manipulated.

Same here, I also thought of Gary Oldman!

I agree that the Surfer shouldn't have the bass or baritone of Galactus but I've always imagined the Surfer's voice to have a Shakespearean quality. Not British, but like the voice of "Thor" from the Marvel Men cartoon. I like the choices presented but here's some others for consideration:
1. Liam Neeson
2. Keith David (Voice of HBO Spawn)
3. Carl Lumby (Voice of Justice League's Martian Manhunter)
4. Phil LaMarr (Voice of Samuri Jack)
