Soderbergh's first Che Guevara script reviewed
There's a review online of the script for Steven Soderbergh's The Argentine, the first of the Soderbergh films on Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, Guerrilla being the first with Benicio Del Toro playing both roles with both scripts written by Peter Buchman with Soderbergh co-writing on Guerilla.
The Argentine tells the story from 1956 when Guevara and a band of Castro-led Cuban exiles mobilised an army to topple the regime of dictator Fulgencio Batista. Guerrilla will tell the story of him travelling to address the United Nations in New York in 1964.
The review itself comes from Latino Review and it's given a fair B. I'm staying clear of the political comments both there and from IESB who I came through to find the review. Both have opposing points of view and I have no idea which is right.
However, the film script looks strong and a review of the second film script is also promised soon. I'm interested in Soderbergh's work, but I'm not so sure about two films looking at the same character in different points of his life. Are they going to be sayinig different things or will they be a similar message? Are they going to take opposing views themselves? I guess we'll have to wait for that second review.
