Bay shows Transformers footage
There are various reports of the Transformers sneak preview that was shown at the Toy Fair, and Michael Bay has carried two of the reports himself, both of which make interesting reading.
According to his own blog entries for the Variety story and the MTV write up, the twenty five minutes of footage looks superb. Here's what hype-mad MTV had to say:
...this is Blackout. The Decepticon is about to lay waste to everything in his path....After Blackout's seamless transformation, the soldiers are suddenly overmatched...Nothing can prepare you for what this is. Imagine Godzilla crossed with a Velociraptor, mechanize the beast and maybe, just maybe you have an idea of the world of Michael Bay's "Transformers."...... "They all think I wasn't listening, but I was. I didn't want to make the boxy characters. I was listening to the fans. I know they hated the Optimus paint job with the stripes...That caused a lot of grief,"...
...If your geek goosebumps don't activate the moment you see Optimus Prime driving down the street commanding, in full robot mode, "Autobots fall back," you need to check yourself...
..."You can do a lot with 30- and 40-foot robots."
Indeed Bay, and whatever the critics say, I thought the trailer was superb and Bay at his best. Action, big robots, no subtlety, fantastic. I can't wait for the film, and I really don't think we're going to be disappointed if we're all expecting a huge blockbuster with mammoth effects and mammoth set pieces with mammoth robots!
