Body parts stolen from Hannibal Rising

HannibalRising.jpgThere's something to start ebay searches on, body parts stolen from the set of Hannibal Rising. Okay, they aren't real body parts but fake ones made by the special effects team on the film, a head and a set of male genitals no less.

How odd is it that these should be stolen? Okay the head is a replica of an actor's head for the film, but the genitals were actually part of a corpse model and had to be sliced off before being stolen. Now that is weird.

Part of me thinks that the story from WENN through Starpulse News Blog is just to drum up some publicity, but the other part of me finds this quite amusing. Sneaking on set to cut off a dummies genitals? Surely you would have taken something a little more precious?

The director thinks they might be destined for sale:

"...someone has got a large rubber penis and a rubber head at home and I don't know what they're doing with it. I think it'll end up on eBay."

Oh dear, you have to laugh. I'm considering setting up my ebay search right now, but I'm scared to see what comes back!

I'm going with the "publicity" theory. I agree with you that it seems a bit silly to go to the trouble of sneaking onto a set and then stealing something as PR-"edgy" as fake genitals. Wouldn't you steal Hannibal's mask or his labcoat or a weapon he uses in the film?

Instead it's as if the PR machine wants us to think, "oh, Hannibal Rising must have a scene with a severed head and genitals. That is very thrilling and I must go see it on opening weekend."

(by the way, the above should be spoken in a kind of monotone, brain-dead robot voice that is usually attributed to moviegoers by the studios' publicity sleazebags)
