Caché gets Hollywood remake

RonHoward.jpgBrian Grazer has grabbed the French film (review to come) Caché by Michael Haneke to remake with the possibility of Ron Howard directing.

I've seen the original, and while it's very good and carries excellent performances from Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche, there does seem a lot that could be done to tighten up the film and produce a bigger impact on the audience. I really liked the story, but I felt it almost got lost in its own subtlety. As I say, I'll get a review of it up soon.

Haneke, as Obsessed With Film reports, is currently working on his first Hollywood film called Funny Games, a remake of his own film of the same name, this one stars Naomi Watts and Tom Roth. So he's too busy to remake another of his own films.

Is anyone else of the opinion that a remake of Caché could be good? Who could possibly replace Auteuil and Binoche and give such powerful performances?

A remake of Funny Games? But hhy? The original film isn't disturbing enough?

As for Cache, thanks for the name drop, I have been catching up on my foreign films at the moment and will add this to my must-see.

I can't see the point of a remake. I agree the original was perhaps too subtle (I didn't realise that final closing credits sequence until I found some entries on imdb revealing it) but in many ways that was made the film - it left you asking questions.

And after The Da Vinci Code I'm not convinced Ron Howard is a man who could "tighten up" anything!

I completely agree with Ian. Actually, I'm cringing at the thought of a remake of such a good film (even if it did need a little tightening up).
