Cage in The Fly remake?
There are more pointless remakes on the way, this one is a remake of The Fly and Nicolas Cage wants to leap into the remake and help destroy it.
I remember this story from ages ago and never heard anything about it since the early rumour but now it seems that David Cronenberg is actively talking about it in wake of the announcement that his version of The Fly is being made into an opera...yes you heard right, an opera.
Cronenberg isn't actually being involved in the remake, but he is keeping his ear to the ground as to developments, and he tells E! through PR Inside, Bloody Disgusting and Obsessed With Film, that Cage is interested in the role.
Matt over at Obsessed rightly points out that at the moment this is conjecture that Cage wants the part, that's all, there's nothing to say he's even auditioned for the role as yet. The poor choice of Cage to the side for the moment though, the whole idea is a bad one.
Why remake a classic film that was remade already into another classic, followed by a lesser film. It's already been done, why try it again? Both Fly films were very different creatures, and they both achieved quite different effects, and I love them both. In fact I'd probably say I love Cronenberg's Fly the best. So why would I want to see another version? I really can't think of a reason. Can you?
