Dakota and Elle Fanning play true life twins

DakotaFanning.jpgDakota Fanning is to team up with her sister Elle Fanning to appear as twins in the true life story Hurricane Mary alongside Chris Cooper, William H. Macy, and Laura San Giacomo.

The story is about the mother of twins who fought a long battle for the rights of her daughters to have a public school education. Both girls were born handicapped and incredibly gifted.

With such a strong cast and the teaming up of the Fanning sisters, this is set to raise interest for more than just the heart rendering and true story.

The script is from Marianne Leone and Arvin Brown is directing. He has directed some big TV shows as well as Diary of the Dead (not the zombie film).

Tim Haslam of Hanway who is handling the worldwide sales, said through Variety:

"This is one of the most powerful and moving scripts I've read in a long time, and it's not by chance that the project has attracted a cast of such a high caliber"

Indeed, it does look like this could be a potential future Oscar nominee for the girls. Perhaps this film could help repair some of the damage that has been done to Dakota's public perception after the Hounddog film?

Interestingly Elle has played Dakota twice already, this is the first time she'll appear as her sister though.

Hmmm, don't know about this one. Dakota will be turning 13 in two weeks, while Elle is only 8, so I'm not sure how they would pull off being twins. Also, Dakota is already attached to The Secret Life of Bees this summer. And "damage that has been done to Dakota's public perception after the Hounddog film?" Nonsense. Only nutjobs like Bill Donohue were bothered by Hounddog, and he hasn't even seen the movie.

Well the feedback I received about the story certainly suggests that there was more than the odd "nutjob" who was upset about the film.

I do agree though, most of them will not have seen it, and in fact from their descriptions they hadn't.

The last thing on earth Dakota needs now is to be scripted into another melodrama- whether it contains child sex or not. And if Otto thinks that Dakota's box office was not shattered by both the infamy of "Hounddog" and, though of lesser import, the failure of "Charlotte's Web", then he's living in La-la-land. Of course, he's the one who hates Bill Donohue just because he objects to children being sexually exploited by sleazy filmmakers. Lots of us do, Otto!

I think I can guarantee that poor Dakota won't be receiving her former salary of $3 million for this picture either. I'm happy, at least, that the sisters will finally get to perform AS sisters, like they've always wanted. But lighter fare would have been a better choice for their careers. Unfortunately, the same people who've made those disasterous and immoral choices for them before are still the ones in charge.
