Departed writer adapts another Siu Fai film
Not content with adapting Mak Siu Fai's Infernal Affairs (Filmstalker review) as The Departed (Filmstalker review), William Monahan is set to adapt another of his films, Seung Sing or Confession of Pain. What's more is that Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star.
Roy Lee's company has bought the rights to the story and is set to produce, Lee is the man behind just about every Asian remake going in Hollywood right now.
The Hollywood version follows two close friends, one a police detective and the other a private detective who team up to investigate the murder of the policeman's father-in-law. As usual, as they investigate things turn out not to be as they seem.
The original is directed by Mak Siu Fai and Lau Wai Keung, it even stars one of the leads of Infernal Affairs, Tony Leung.
The story comes from The Hollywood Reporter through Coming Soon.
Considering he's not that happy with the Infernal Affairs remake, what's he going to make of another of his films being tackled by the same writer?
