Fears shoots for Brian Clough at Leeds United
The director of The Queen, Stephen Frears, has said that he hopes to make a film about the famous British football manager Brian Clough and that Michael Sheen is at the fore to take the role.
Sheen has played a number of famous people already, Tony Blair twice, Kenneth Williams and also David Frost. Now it seems he's set to continue the trend.
The film will be based on the novel The Damned Utd by David Peace which examines Clough's forty four days in charge of Leeds United in 1974. His strong and aggressive management style worked well for him in his career, until he came to Leeds and the players rallied against him causing his very early departure.
According to the BBC Frears announced his intentions at the Ffresh film festival in Aberystwyth.
"I'm hoping to make a film about Brian Clough at the end of the year based on a wonderful book I came across," said Frears."The truth is that it hasn't been written yet. Peter Morgan is writing it, and with luck we will make it...There's a strong likelihood I'm going to be doing it...I know Michael Sheen is going to play him (Clough) because he looks like him."
Well I have to ask football fans, as I'm not really one of them, are there many other football tales out there you would rather see? Is this a particularly interesting one? I know that football is littered with controversial stories behind the scenes, so there's not a lack of material.
