Ghost Rider 2 already planned?
I've just talked about this sequel hype at press events before a film has seen a mass release already, and it's happening again with Avi Arad hyping up the idea of a Ghost Rider sequel.
At a press even for the film Arad announced that there are already talks for the sequel and that Nicolas Cage will most definitely be back as the Rider Johnny Blaze, should the sequel go ahead.
The comments come from MovieWeb, yet through Moviehole we hear that Cage has taken the cautious and more sensible route, he's saying let's wait until we see the returns on the first film. Apparently there's not even a contract for either to be in a second film, something that is usually claused into a contract from the beginning.
I think this is really premature of Arad, and is a great tactic on his part to get into the press and get Ghost Rider mentioned a little more than maybe it is already. There's a distinct lack of press coverage as it is since press screenings seem to be extremely selective and there's a confusion over whether there actually are any or not. It is clear that most people who usually get to see these screenings aren't getting to or aren't being invited.
It seems to me that this is a tactic to get press attention, whether it's true or not. We've heard it for Borat, 300, Hannibal Rising and now Ghost Rider. Could it really be true?
