Could Jet Li be starring in the The Mummy 3 as the new Mummy?

I thought I had written about this rumour before because it rings a bell with me, but I can't find it. However there is a rumour, and I would say huge amounts of salt with this one, that Li is set to appear as the baddie in Mummy 3, according to Mania.com through HorrorMovies.ca, there's no other details than that though.

Well it could well be true if the entire story is being lifted to China, but script reviews of that version haven't been promising. Still, if we're losing the Egypt setting and the old Mummy then perhaps Li would fit well in a third. However if the stars aren't sure that they are in the third of the franchise then how are they sure that Li is in?

According to the story Stephen Sommers wanted to do something more with Van Helsing whereas Universal didn't, so he has to decide if he wants to do a Mummy 3 and according to the rumour if he doesn't say yes he won't get to do Flash Gordon. Now that would be something you wouldn't want to miss out on.

I'm not so sure though, Sommers has proved himself a few times already, does he really have to do anything more to secure Flash Gordon? I don't know, there's been so many rumours on this story that I don't know which way to go with it. What do you think is the truth in it all?
