Monahan and Scorsese on music industry

Book.jpgNot only is William Monahan working with Leonardo DiCaprio on another Asian remake of a film from the Infernal Affairs (Filmstalker review) director, but he's also working on a new script for the director Martin Scorsese.

This film will be called The Long Play and will follow two friends through forty years in the music business from their early days in R&B through to the contemporary hip-hop scene. According to Variety through Coming Soon, Mick Jagger is also set to work with Scorsese again and this time producing.

It appears this is the next project for Monahan, having just completed Penetration and Marco Polo. Penetration being a project for Ridley Scott and Marco Polo featuring Matt Damon. He's certainly a writer in demand.

Scorsese's next project sounds quite interesting, and that small blurb has a lot of scope for plenty of storytelling. Forty years inside the music industry? Drugs, sex, backstabbing, oh there's everything there. Sounds like a good one.
