Myers targets Indian steretype
Mike Myers is reportedly developing a couple of new film scripts and both feature his Indian character Guru Pitka, a love guru who is an expert on relationships, and is as much an Indian stereotype as you could imagine.
According to Twitch, via MCN and Film Radar, his plan is to hit the stereotypes with the same humour as he did his English, Scottish and Dutch characters through the Austin Powers series. Well I have to say I did find the Austin Powers character funny, but it's fair to say that was more a stereotype of a film character rather than a specific nationality of people. That said I didn't really take for the Dutch character and I detested the Scottish character who has barely raised a snicker with people I know. Not a good sign so far I think.
However Kurt says that he's been testing the character on small stage shows to see how it fares in front of a live audience, will that translate to the big screen, and will it provide more controversy than comedy?
